The Poggino olive grove extends over an area of about 2 hectares. Our 528 olive trees are grown respecting nature.
The soil where the olive grove is rooted consists principally of sand from the ancient Pliocene sea. It’s common to find ancient skeletons, mollusks and crustaceans here.
The olive trees are well drained and the 400m altitude creates good ventilation which aids growth and pollination, keeping the plants healthy and safe from insect attack. This results in both a healthy olive crop and a high quality of olive oil.
The cultivated olive varieties are:

Moraiolo
medium vigor plant, with small, spherical, black fruits when ripe. Medium production, with very high oil yield and good quality, with a light herbaceous flavor and strong notes of bitter, rich in squalene.

Leccino
plant of good vigor, expanded habit, thick foliage of intense green color and good productivity. The fruits are ovoid in shape, black and not high in oil, which is slightly fruity and tending to sweet, rich in tocopherols.

Frantoio
medium vigorous plant, luxuriant vegetation and high productivity. The medium-small fruits are of elongated ovoid shape, pink-violet in color, which tends to red. Good yield in oil, which is fruity, slightly spicy and intense in color, rich in polyphenols.

Olivastra di Seggiano
very vigorous plant, expanded and medium-thick foliage. Productivity is good even if alternating. The spheroidal fruits are rather small, black and quite high. The oil has peculiar organoleptic characteristics with a pleasantly fruity aroma and taste.
